about_____
After graduating from Cooper Union, where she focused primarily on installation art, Mimi received a scholarship to study communication design in Basel, Switzerland. From there she returned to New York to work for Art+Commerce, where she designed books and exhibitions, before eventually taking some time off. In 2008, during her break from graphic design, Mimi started Brook&Lyn blog as a way to bookmark her finds and document her bold, yet minimalistic style. It quickly gained an audience and morphed into a more structured fashion and style blog. Mimi continued pursuing personal projects in art and fashion on the side, frequently sharing them with her blog readers. When one of her hand-crafted necklaces received an overwhelming response from not only her readers, but stores, she decided to design her debut collection, “Surrounded”. The name of the collection, “Surrounded,” is an homage to the 6 hour process of creating each piece by hand. An agate stone is naturally composed of a center ring surrounded by concentric rings of varying shape and color. Each stone’s ring pattern is echoed by a hand-crocheted border and the entire piece is then surrounded in rope. Brook&Lyn’s debut collection has been featured in the pages of The New York Times, Lucky Magazine, New York Magazine, Teen Vogue, and Paper Magazine. The collection has sold across the US and UK at shops such as Maryam Nassir Zadeh, shopbop.com and Sucre. After the success of Brook&Lyn’s debut collection, Mimi Jung recently showcased her second collection in New York and Paris set to launch in spring 2012. |
