MOSCHINO INSPIRED DIY

_____

Everyone has pretty much seen the new Moschino line of awesomeness with safety pins. They have adorned everything from jackets to skirts the millions on pins. How can you not try this at home? Well watching the second season of Californication and procrastinating from doing Boutique work this is what I did for fun. I bought a $34.99 H&M jacket, 500 3/4″ gold safety pins and got to work. The Moschino wool jacket cost $3,260…nuts! At first I tried it like the Moschino way (more piping) but I wanted a chunkiness to the pins and have it not look so much like safety pins from afar. This collar alone holds 500 pins if you can believe it! There is a whole complicated system of linking them and crossing them that I figured out somehow. I would have gone more out with the back but I ran out of pins! I do owever have in mind another jacket which will get a totally different treatment with black safety pins. In my mind it looks like a crazy armor! I have about 4000 pins on the way. Stay tuned.

Top: DIY safety pin jacket, DVF cami

Bottom: Custom made pants

Shoes: Jean-Michel Cazabat Wedges (I love this color!)

Accessories: Brass snake ring (soon coming to Brook&Lyn Boutique), Tiffany teardrop gold ring, Black metal necklace designed by my mother

Just that you had the patience to recreate that look is what amazes me. And then you perfected it and brought it to life in your photos. Magical!

eLLy*: I did that watching almost all the episodes of second season of Californication. No idea the hours…

Sunkissed Siren: I love the blog name. Best of luck to you!

Allie: Makes sure its a movie you don’t really have to pay too much attention to…there should be some major poking in your fingers otherwise.

Thanks guys! I think safety pins are the new studs don’t you?

It looks amazing! I don’t think I have the patience to work on something like that but maybe a small section on the back of a sweater. I loved McQueens safety pin sweater collars I believe 2 seasons ago.

Brook & Lyn, you are a genius & I’m crazy about that jacket. Seriously, I’m heading to the craft store today. I wonder if they sell safety pins at Costco? ;) Where did you get yours? I want to do a slouchy tee for a concert benefitting International Justice Mission I’m attending next week. Somehow the safety pins seem appropriate for an event that will help to free people from bondage. Think I have enough time to pull it off? We’ll see. http://www.nickiefrye.etsy.com

Nickie: I bought my safety pins on Ebay…came all the way from HK. For some reason getting little gold one cheap from other places were too expensive. What an amazing idea for wear it for benefit for IJM! Best of luck and let me know what results you come up with! Thanks.

So far, so good! I got some 1″ silver ones from Michael’s for cheap & made tons of progress yesterday. it actually goes a lot faster than I thought it would. I think I’m hooked on this process now. Everything I own is going to be adorned with safety pins before long. I might need an intervention. ;)

Nickie: Owww…take some pics and share! I studded too many things earlier this year so I’m trying to hold back on the safety pin myself! It’s hard though…
